This is a superb movie based on a terrific book by Jilly Cooper. Lysander Hawkley is one of Jilly's best characters, and Stephen plays him perfectly. From the first minute we see him on screen, Lysander is kind, warm and dear. One really gets the feeling that no matter what it costs, Stephen's Lysander would come through for one in a pinch, like the time he went with Marigold to the twin's recital. He knew he was going to really catch it from his father, but he went anyway, because he knew it was important to her. The main plot goes something like this, Lysander is broke, Ferdie is bored, so Ferdie comes up with this plan that Lysander can put the women back into shape, put on a good show for the husbands, make them jealous and get them to come back to their wives. Works fine.
At the same time, Lysander is working at coping with the recent death of his dear mother, and really just goes along with it because Marigold needs the help. [Notable and fun: Wonderful focus and energy, Stephen swimming (he's a swimmer, remember?!), tennis scenes, and Stephen in a tux. Doesn't get any better than that!]

What Stephen had to say about "The Man Who Made Husbands Jealous":"When they told me the part was mine, the initial reaction was 'Yes! Great! I've got it!', followed pretty fast by 'Can I do it?'" (OK!, June 1997)
"It was great fun to do. Everything went really smoothly and Jilly Cooper really loved it. She's really lively and witty and she makes you feel at ease immediately--at the end of the show I got a little note from her saying 'You are my Lysander', which was really nice."
