'My mates were exceedingly jealous,' he recalls. 'But that's understandable, given that I had to snog her every single night. And if that wasn't bad enough for them, when the play finished it's run Kathleen sent me a note on her own headed paper. It read: "Stephen -- your kisses thrilled me. Love Kathleen." Suffice to say, I was quietly pleased.'
